ENGINEERING WOES (PART2)
I REALLY DO NOT REMEMBER WHERE I HAD STOPPED IN STRIPPING OFF ‘ENGINEERING LIFE’ OR TO BE MORE PRECISE LIFE IN ‘ENGINEERING COLLEGE’!!!
AH YES, I HAD TAKEN A BREAK OFF FOR MY 6TH SEMESTER EXAMINATION AND THINGS WERE QUITE HECTIC (THEY ARE SAME THOUGH EVEN AFTER EXAM)
ANYWAYS IT WAS ALWAYS A DREAM TO BE THE SENIOR MOST BATCH IN COLLEGE AND HERE WE ARE IN OUR 7TH SEMESTER,IN OUR FINAL YEAR AND GUESS WHAT ‘WOES’ HAVE INCREASED SEVEN FOLD.
MANY THINGS CHANGE AS WE GROW UP, WE JUST DON’T INCREASE IN INCHES, OUR GREY GETS GREYER , OUR LIPS DON’T SING EVERY SONG WORLD IS SINGING,OUR FINGERS DON’T WRITE FOR JUST FUN AND GROWING IN ENGINEERING COLLEGE GIVES US ALL THIS!!! ALL THESE CHANGES, AS WE GROW UP, WE DON’T JUST WRITE ASSIGNMENTS AND SPIT OUT VIVA VOCE AND SING OUT SESSIONALS, WE MAKE CHANGES, WE INVENT, WE INNOVATE AND WE DEFINE WHAT MEANS WHAT!!!
I KNOW ITS TAKING YOU BY SURPRISE THAT I AM BEING REALLY GOOD TO COLLEGE AND NOT STRIPPING ‘ENGINEERING LIFE’, O DON’T WORRY, THE ARTICLE WILL BE ‘PAISA WASOOL’, I JUST DON’T KNOW WHICH THREAD TO PULL FIRST… LOL ;)
THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING IN HIGHER SEMESTERS IS THAT YOU ARE MORE OF A TEACHER TO YOURSELF AND THERE IS VERY LITTLE DEPENDENCY ON COLLEGE, THIS RULE HOWEVER HAS FEW EXCEPTIONS OF EXTREMELY HARDWORKING PEOPLE WHO COVER IT ALL IN COLLEGE AND GOD FORBID IF A SEMESTER GOES WITHOUT A REGULAR TEACHER FOR SUBJECT THE FORMER ARE ALWAYS THE MERRIER, LATTER CAN BE FOUND BITING OFF THEIR NAILS IN EXAM HALL!!
THERE IS SOMETHING THAT COMES NATURALLY TO AN ENGINEER, LIKE WE INHERIT OUR MOTHER TONGUE, ENGINEERS INHERIT HYPOCRICY AND DIPLOMACY AND AH GOD THEY CONUSE IT WITH INTELLIGENCE, YES THEY DO INHERIT IT IN THEIR COLLEGE LIFE AND I BELIEVE IT IS NATURAL TO DO SO UNTILL AND UNLESS YOU ARE SOME SAINT OR REALLY DUMB!!
THE LAST SEMESTERS ARE BASICALLY MEANT TO SEE IF WE CAN REALLY SURVIVE IN ENVIRONMENT THAT AWAITS US WITH OPEN ARMS!! THUS IN OTHER WORDS A NEWSPAPER ALWAYS WAITS FOR US ON THE BRAKFAST TABLE AND I CANT BELIEVE WHEN MUM SAYS, “CHECK OUT FOR SOME JOB AND ITERVIEW NOTIFICATIONS BEFORE TAKING YOUR TEA”, O GOD!!!
FINE!! YOU SIP YOUR ANGER WITH TEA AND LEAVE FOR COLLEGE WITH BURNING SENSATION IN YOUR THROAT CAUSED BY TEA SERVED WITH LOVE!!! LOL
SUDDENLY YOU FIND COLLEGE EXCITING WHICH YOU NEVER DID IN ALL THOSE THREE YEARS, REASON BEING THAT YOUR HOME IS MORE OF A BATTLEGROUND FOR JOBS AND COLLEGE IS O SO CARELESS WITH ALL THOSE HAVING THINKING AS GOOD AS YOU HAVE… LOL..
SOMEWHERE IN YOUR MIND YOU ALWAYS CALCULATE YOUR PERCENTAGE EVERY HALF AN HOUR JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU STILL FALL IN THE JOB CRITERIA OF BIG COMPANIES, THINKING ALL THIS AFTER A HECTIC DAY AS YOU WALK IN LANE LEADING TO YOUR VILLA, YOU MEET UP ‘XYZ AUNTY’, AND YOU COME TO KNOW HOW HER GIRL WANTS TO BE AN ENGINEER AND ASPIRES TO BE IN “ABC” COMPANY, AND THEN SHE JUST WANTS TO KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT IT AND WHAT HER GIRL SHOULD BE DOING TO BEJUST INLINE FOR A JOB!!! THAT’S WHERE YOU USE F WORD FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME IN YOUR LIFE AND HEY IT IS NO SIN THIS TIME… LOL
YOU REACH HOME AND THANK GOD THAT MUM AND DAD BOTH HAVE NOT TURNED UP, BUT YOU DO FIND AN ‘EMPLOYMENT NEWS’ ON THE FRIDGE WITH A NOTE ATTATCHED TO IT “GO THRU IT BETA”

Happy birthday to me. . A review of happy moments!
9th september, 6pm i get to know from one of my friend and mentor Amir gulzar(regional manager, Ranbaxy int) that there is a surprise in store for me and i better stay with them at their villa, we call it friends villa, i have loads of friends there who do not share college with me but have helped me become what i am. I reached there at 7pm and found everything silent i mean i doubted if anyone else except amir knew about my birthday or it ll be a waste. I talked to sanjiv(mba final yr), mir irfhan (lawyer in jammu high court) vishi bro and Saurabh ma buddy! In a moment i found Ishant entering door with lots of movie dvd's in hand and in his typical tone said,"jaldi jaldi choose karo".! We selected two movies for the night, 'SALT' and 'INCEPTION'. . Now it was all boy zone and i had promised ma sis that i ll be celebrating with her only. Anyways let me come straight to the event, upto 12 we had finished watching one movie and as it stuck 12, i got attacked on all sides from these fellows, they picked me up, threw me up in air, kicked me and finally dropped me hard. . If not for ma birthday i would ve slapped them. . Ma best fren saved me from further torture, she called in at right time and i went off to talk to her. I came down after ten minutes, cut the cake and they danced and cheered for me. . It was really amazing moment. I got calls from friends but missed most of them cuz of celebrations that we were on for. Amir us all out for ice cream at mid night and we came back without it after searching gole market. . Lol:)
I have some of the best people in world as frens. As i lay in ma bed, i logged in to social networking sites and found wishes all around. Thank you so much for wishing. May God bless you all.
Ma alarm rang exactly at 4am and after a shower, i started out with prayers and then went to jog with amir n saurabh.
After a heavy breakfast i turned back to ma place and di was kind of angry but anyhow she gave me a really beautiful gift and hugged me tight! I love you di. :-)
and then i spent ma whole day with di, uncle aunty and cousins, we went off to bahu fort and enjoyed lots, even tried for movie tickets but being friday we were unsuccessful. :-( housefull dabang. .
I just returned back and hey its eid as well na, i really feel blessed to have celebrated ma birthday on eid.
I still have some treats pending for the evening. . . Will catch up with ma buddies and party. ,

Awesome mornings start with hukumnama!!

I woke up this morning and like always checked on my cell before goin on for morning prayers, and there i saw this jewel of golden words from shri guru garanth sahib ji!

*+Kashmir unrest and status of minorities+*
Northern most governed part of india is on boil again and like always we dont find any help from anyone. Year 2008 saw massive protests, infact the largest uprising after 47 in india, but why did it fizz out?? Reasons unknown!!

'LAck Of vision and mission'
I am really sorry if it sounds bit harsh that i am calling this movement without mission and vision, i am no scholar no historian, i am just a common kashmiri living away from his land. I am really disappointed and feel sad about the way things are shaping in kashmir. It is good to know that protests finally are not instigated but spontaneous and we do ve back up from all of india's civil society after a long long time, Do WE WANT IT TO fizz OUT LIKE 2008!!
Some may argue that 08 laid basis for what is happening today, i would slightly disagree because now every tom dick and harry knows that the phase was political which resulted in nothing but losses. This time things are different, and thats really appreciable if we can get something good out of it. ,
i am part of SGPC youth faction (it is one of the governing authorities for sikhs) and after maintaining a long spell of silence i speak. After detailed discussions with the minorities and series of meetings with people over past one month, there are certain things that we want to make clear to each and every person with stone in hand demanding freedom!
1. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE IT A COMMUNAL MOVEMENT.
I know kashmir has been the best example of religious harmony and many would even argue that the movement is not communal, it is purely movement of people, but my interaction with minority people shows a different page altogether. There are certain things that majority community will have to realise very soon if they dont want 2010 to fizz out like 08.
Homing about 8k sikhs in different parts and pandits as well as hindu's kashmir presents really good picture of religious tolerance. I feel proud that even after migration of pandits we were able to maintain our good picture in d eyes of world but now things are changing, now i wont just pick up a single hair cutting incident that raised brows around globally spread sikhs and other communities as well. .
HAIR CUTTING INCIDENT; aftermath. .
I was in direct contact with the district committee of my town baramulla when this incident occured, soon a meeting was called up in jammu to review the situation and press note was released condemning the incident and clearly mentioning that it should not affect brotherhood in valley! Then we had series of assurances coming from all sections of society including hurriyat conf. Sikhs took it as one unfortunate thing and tried to move on but then review of different sections of sikhs yielded following. .
1.Most of the sikhs in valley are beleived to be an obstacle hindering something called azadi.
True they may be because we never were protesting against hindu's or any community and i as a person never felt imprisoned there, yes there were human rights violations there still are and we protest that! The view of sikhs that they are hindrance for the cause of azadi is creating tensions which need to be eased. The meetings of sikhs with gilani or any other did not discuss this, it is an issue.
2. Sikhs have not contributed to the cause of kashmir. .
I wonder how that is true, we work for same govt as majority does. From past 3months the plight of sikhs is same as majority, all are house arrested, education has suffered equally for both.
There are points that one of the members of sgpc has gathered after his visits to twin villages of dardpora and rafiabad, they wil be made public in next post.
I on behalf of the whole sikhs community of jammu and kashmir request and urge majority community to keep the movement away from religion. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

THEY SAY THE NUMBER OF SHEETS WRITTEN BY AN ENGINEER IN FOUR YEARS ARE SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO BURRY HIM WHEN HE IS GONE, LOGIC STANDS GOOD FOR BURNING AS WELL!!!
THE REASON I AM WRITING THIS MUST BE OBVIOUS BY NOW, THIS IS JUST TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THE MOST FAMOUS “ENGINEERING WOES”!!! BEING AN ‘ER.BABU’ IS NOT SO EASY, THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT ENGINEERING KILLS IN YOU, NOT TO MENTION OF THE TIME AND INK,THEY GO ALONG…LOL!!
I STARTED THIS JOURNEY THREE YEARS BACK NOT KNOWING IT WILL TAKE SO MUCH AWAY FROM ME AND GIVE SOMETHING THAT I MAY NEVER REALLY BE ABLE TO VALUE OR UNDERSTAND. THE LIST OF MY LOSSES IS REALLY LONG BUT THEN I TRY TO FORGET ABOUT ALL THOSE THINKING ‘EVERYTHING COMES WITH A PRICE TAG’.

THE DAY YOU ENTER AN ENGINEERING COLLEGE, YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF THINKING THAT YOU WILL GO OUT AS SOMEONE WHO WILL BE RESPECTABLE IN SOCIETY, THIS FEELING CONTINUES TO DOMINATE YOU TILL YOU GET YOUR VERY FIRST SESSIONAL TEST RESULTS!!!! LOL
THEN YOU GET LITTLE ACQUIANTED WITH THE ATMOSPHERE AND START INTROSPECTING “AH WHERE WAS I WRONG, I DID EVERYTHING AS I DID IN SCHOOL, LEARNT EVERY TOPIC, CRAMMED EVERYTHING AND EVEN PASTED SAME ON THE SHEETS” INNOCENTLY BUT INTELLIGENTLY YOU GET TO KNOW ABOUT THE BEAUTIFUL POLITICAL SYSTEM RUNNING WITHIN THE COLLEGE AND SUDDENLY YOU START FEELIN PROUD OF BEING BORN IN INDIA!!! YOU COME HOME TALK BACK TO YOUR BEST FRIEND AND PARENTS AND HERE IS WHAT COMES OUT “D AS ROMANS DO!!!”, AND IN YOUR HEARTS OF HEARTS YOU DECIDE YOU WILL OVERCOME THIS AND GET SOME SOLUTION, UNFORTUNATELY YOU END UP BEING PART OF THE SYSTEM AND THAT TOO ON A LEVEL WHERE THEY CALL YOU AS ‘THE PLACEMENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE COLLEGE’!!!!
BEING IN SCHOOL YOU HAVE ONE GREAT HABBIT, I MEAN I ALWAYS LOVED IT WHEN I GOT UP AND WAITED FOR ALARM CLOCK TO RING, AH ITS ALL GONE NOW, I DON’T KNOW HOW IT WOULD VE BEEN IF I WAS AN RJ OR A DOC, BUT I BLAME IT ON ENGINEERING….TAKE IT FROM ME, I HAD NO SINGLE DAY IN LAST 3YRS WHEN I WAS TOTALLY FREE, I WAS ALWAYS WRITING A PAGE HERE AND PAGE THERE…. I REMEMBER SITTING WHOLE NIGHTS AND SIPPING TEA AND COFFEE AND EATING OUT HEADS OF MY FRIENDS ABOUT NO OF PAGES… NOW SEE THIS IS REALLY INTERESTING THE LOGIC HERE, I HEARD SOME TEACHER CONFESSING IT,”YU ALL ARE GONNA COPY PASTE SO ASSIGNMENT ASSESMENT WILL BE BASED ON VIVA” BELIEVE ME IF NOT FOR MY DECENT RAPORT IN COLLEGE I WANTED TO SHOUT OUT IN CLASS!! AND YOU KNOW FUNNY THING, LAST TIME MY MUM ASKED ME REASON OF BEING AN INSOMANIAC, I STARTED OUT WITH THIS THEORY BUT I KNOW WHAT THEY THOUGHT,”OUR BOY IS IN LOVE”…. FORGIVE ME GOD IF I AM DISRESPECTING LOVE BUT I AM NOT IN LOVE, I AM INTO ENGINEERING!!!!!!

I REMEMBER SITTING WHOLE NIGHTS AND SIPPING TEA AND COFFEE AND EATING OUT HEADS OF MY FRIENDS ABOUT NO OF PAGES… NOW SEE THIS IS REALLY INTERESTING THE LOGIC HERE, I HEARD SOME TEACHER CONFESSING IT,”YU ALL ARE GONNA COPY PASTE SO ASSIGNMENT ASSESMENT WILL BE BASED ON VIVA” BELIEVE ME IF NOT FOR MY DECENT RAPORT IN COLLEGE I WANTED TO SHOUT OUT IN CLASS!! The imminent and sad demise of .net technologies!!
This topic has been quite in limelight among us all as to what is actually the better of two technologies, is it java or .net. The reason i am discussing this is cuz i stand alone in my class who has worked on java technologies and rest all had their interests in microsoft based .net. As they say the debate that air is more important or water has no relevance to fish, it is going to live in water anyway, same way with over 70% microsoft users, my points are useless.
I do not know if i am goin to regret my decision of opting for java or not but there are certain things in which java is certainly better than .net. Here i am presenting some important points with little explanation. Please do contact if any point is not clear or wrong, please do correct me, i am putting things as i ve been taught and as i ve researched a bit. . ,
THE POINTS STAND AS NAILS IN COFFIN OF .NET. . Here they are. .
1. Java applications run on multiple platforms from smallest devices to large mainframes. It runs on platforms ranging from smart cards, embedded systems, cellphones, servers(both mainframe as well as non stop)! .Net doesn, infact it is advised not to use .net applications in real time situations, they HANg UP on you like WINDOWS!
2. Java IDE'S are superior in their support for coding tasks, features like code refactoring, intention action(which .net copied and presented it as intelli sense), superior code browsing with built in code and class browser and robust automatic code completion. I wonder how many features has microsoft copied till now and added to its another new version ie beta 10VS. D argument that java copied it from .net should not arise, cuz java made that feature a part of IDE when .net was in its infancy.
3.CROSS PLATFORM INTEGRATION. . integration with other languages like perl, php or phython is achieved in java, these are not sun's creation but independent open source products so u cant present a point that they ve same creator. I can take my php script that can talk to java and run in windows and i can finally place it in linux box and ve ma work done without spending a single coin. . CAN .NET DO IT??
4. Java has retra mature and robust products that support mapping of relational data bases to objects, like top link and coco base. There is no such took in .net. And now microsoft has added something called objectspace and that too in beta, NOT MATURe enough to entrust intelligent users.
5. More deployment options with java!
There are more ways to deploy your application, like java offers you applet, webstart, x windows, midlet. What about .net? I dont know so please tell me.
6. Java applications can be compiled in one platform and run in other.
Now consider this in visual studio, .net and .net sdk ve strict user license agreement that code compiled with these cant run in non microsoft environment! Why???
I would not appreciate your views of marketing here. Lets talk engineering for God sake.
7. Java programmers and developers are ten times more in demand than .net. . You ll end up working in highly volatile environment with 10java guys and they are mad i tell u, cuz they dont drag and drop.

Windows 7ultimate Vs Linux.. . Reality revealed.
The question,"who will crush whom?" finally got its answers today when i was not even looking for it.
Back there in college, me and my friends were always proud of linux as an Os, we ve had many discussions, but v really never knew details of either, linux or windows.
I remember having spent some time installing f3dora once and my friends muzamil and tyab ve had their experiences with solaris n ubuntu as well so i am not new to how linux looks like! V hd 1hr guest lecture by hp professionals about 'where windows actually stands'.
I will try to reduce the use of technical terms as much as possible. Crux of 1hr was that windows7 stands nowhere when it comes to comparison with linux giants.
Windows7 uses minwin kernel, that all windows os's use. It is no doubt way better den win vista sp1. Windows7made good friends with xp users, but what we are really seeing is that windows users are just thrilled that it is not total waste of bytes as vista was. Now our point is that just cuz windows7 saves bytes, it in no way shows in its architecture, cuz it not only looks like vista but amazingly works like it as well.
Linux trio of f3dora, ubuntu and open SUSE shows its continuing to increase performance and add new features every month. Linux remains far more secure and stable than any windows version ever was.
Windows7 has its ups like it installs easily, has simpler config, and greater availability of software support, but before u smile that it is winning, consider this, linux and its software are mindlessly easy to install, and as far as software choice is concerned, come on, linux has too many programs to choose from, you name it and you ve half dozen decent choices in linux.
On a lighter note, one point is agreeable that linux doesnt come with flashy games pre installed, i wonder how many of us play those:-)
windows7 uses power shell, thank God! Microsoft finally realised that shell is darn handy for system administrator.linux has been using power shell ever since its birth at BSD.
Finally a point that windows7 people boast off, is that it uses,UAC(user account control), no doubt it is better in 7 than vista but still 3 to 4 generations behind linux.
Windows 7is just warmed over vista, it is really nice to know that good os like vista did not go into trash and is reusable now in the form of 7.
However in spite of all this, it is fairly true that linux cant crush windows7 cuz it is married to too many people, but everyone knows linux is future of desktop.
Windows7 users are unimaginably higher than linux users but hey linux fans note that cockroaches are far numerous than humans and numbers alone do not denote higher life form. . Isnt it??
